Half-Empty: The Station Agent is a Stud compared to These Guys

Mark Shapiro is back to his old tricks...

Searching for Diamonds in the Rough...

The Tribe signed five minor leaguers

Three infielders:

Andy Gonzalez
Aaron Herr
Danny Sandoval

Catcher:

Armando Camacaro

RHP:

Matt Ginter

No surprise here, but Kenny Loften won't be coming back to Cleveland.

According to this article, he is very close to signing with the Brewers.

In some good off the field news, it seems Juan Lara is progressing and has been moved to the Cleveland Clinic.

Best wishes go out to Juan and his family during what is surely a difficult holiday season.

Sorry that is all for today folks. Expect a few more quiet days on the news front as the holidays pass.

Goooooooooooooooo Tribe!

Cheers!

Thoughts on Josh Hamilton to Rangers? His numbers from last year projected out over a year would look rather nice in one of the corner OF spots. We couldn't have offered someone comparable to Edison Volquez? I mean Christ, when the Rangers are giving up pitching to get a bat you know we had to of had a comparable arm in our system.

Count me as one that thinks very highly of Josh Hamilton and his potential.

However, thanks to Milton Bradley and perhaps Brandon Phillips (to a lesser degree), I am convinced that Mark Shapiro refuses to even consider adding players who have any off the field baggage. Time and time again we hear the "Great Group of Guys Banter" and quite frankly, I don't think Wedge has any tolerance for young arrogant or problematic players.

Recently, I was listening to WKNR and Garko and Hafner were going on and on about how great the clubhouse was; how professional and relaxed they were; a perfect mix of youth and experience, and so on. So the point is, as frustrated as I get by the Tribe brass staying away from talent because of off the field problems, I must concede that when the leaders in the clubhouse recognize and appreciate professionalism, it is hard for me to argue.

That is not saying that Josh Hamilton won't or can't turn his personal life around. According to reports, he's made great strides. Overall, I just have to wish him luck and respect the goals of our Tribe to build a winner, inside and out.

Of course you do make an excellent point. It is very, very frustrating when you see team giving up players to bring in legitimate major leaguers, especially when you feel you could have offered just as much, if not more for their services.

That said, it must be noted that Edinson Volquez is no slouch. Despite the Rangers lacking pitching on their major league club, they certainly may have given up a gem in this case.

Take a glance at his numbers http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?n=Edinson%20Volquez&pos=P&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=450172

166 Ks in 144IP last year with a combined .190 BA against. He may be special one day.

mlbtraderumors.com also disects the trade and agrees, calling Volquez, "immensely talented".

Had the Tribe given up Adam Miller or Chuck Lofgren for Josh Hamilton, I think most would agree, that that would have been quite the gamble.

Thanks for the post and keep em comin!

Cheers!

Well either you are right and the Rangers gave up a gem, which would be rather bone headed considering their lack of mound presence or they didn't give up much and picked up a high risk high reward type player. If it is the latter I would be sick just like I was when Phillips panned out. If Shapiro is going to go with all upstanding citizens with no past drug use problems he shouldn't pick up Paul Byrd's option year, oh wait, too late.
