Half-Full: More on the Carsten Charles Achievment

.
-----1971------------1985---------------2007---------

"Sabathia is the first African-American to win it since Dwight Gooden in 1985, and the first black Cy Young recipient in the AL since Vida Blue in 1971."
.
Jim Ingraham adds another perspective:
.
"In the 43 drafts since Major League Baseball's first June Free Agent Draft in 1965, the Indians have selected a total of 1,954 players. One thousand nine hundred and fifty three of them have never won a major award at the major league level. C.C. Sabathia has."

Although he surely desreved it I am actually quite suprised that he won. His numbers were pretty much identical to Becketts but as all of us Tribe fans know they should have been better. So many times he would pitch us deep into the game and get a no decision or a loss because of his lack of run support. The reason I'm suprised about him winning is because Beckett was lights out in the post season. I know this isn't supposed to factor into it but in all honesty I'm sure it does. I'm sure that he is so happy about winning the award as an Indian he will shave 4-6 mill off his asking price. lol
